Course Description

This online course is not officially associated to Humber College in any way. It is used by myself as a tool when teaching in this course on campus. The official web page for this course is available here: http://lis.humber.ca/LIS/WebCalendar/CE/CourseOffering.do?name=IMAG_574

Adobe Flash is no longer used as simply "animation for the web" software. Although traditional animation techniques can still be applied to create unique interface elements, one cannot hope to master current applications of Flash without exposure to its native scripting language ActionScript. From coding basic mouse actions to custom functions, students will be exposed to the script driving some of the most creative work on the web. This course introduces students to the syntax of ActionScript while exploring the Actions Panel and its effect on the ActionScript code.

We will be exploring ActionScript 3.0, an object oriented language similar to JavaScript, which enables developers to create highly interactive, adaptable and reusable multimedia websites, product demonstrations and more. Students will be shown how to write well-structured code and where to place it in relation to a flash document.

My career in New Media has been split pretty evely between instructing and development. I teach part time at Humber College with the School of Media Studies and the Digital Imaging Training Centre. And I am a co-owner of a small web development firm called Robin Hood Tech Inc.

I have also recently been involved in a few Flash book for Friends of Ed. I tech edited Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers and co-authored Flash CS3 Video.

These courses are meant to work with in class instruction at Humber College but can also be taken as simply onlne courses.
